Handmade Oil Catch Tank
So... 70$ just for the bottle and a couple of pipes? No way. Let's do this
ourselves.
What we’ll
need ?
-
tin-plate can/bottle. Use any from car oil additives like
oil system washers etc.
-
copper
pipes in two diameters
-
powerful
soldering iron (better something like 100Watt)
-
clear
plastic pipe for meter
-
plastic
net
-
can
of paint
-
air
breather filter
-
clamp
(to use as mounting)
Step 1.
Smaller pipe will be used for meter, larger for inlet and outlet. Mark places
where you will make the holes and drill them. Sand space around holes and
tinker it.
Step 2.
Bend the smaller pipe 90 deg.
If you don’t
have bender - cut straight, two pieces of pipe approx 1.5 inch long. Each
piece cut half by 45 deg angle. Sand pipes and tinker them. Turn both pieces
so they would make a 90 deg turn and tinker them together (it could be more easy to tinker internal part first to can, and then tinker
second pipe to the first one).
Step 3.
Cut bigger pipes, sand them, and tinker them to the can.
Step 4.
Cut a piece of net on internal perimeter of a can. Twist it, stick inside
the can, release it and adjust between inlet and outlet holes. This
suppose to be net to catch the oil vapours. I was not able to find
net with cells small enough so used possibly useless one.
Step 5.
Sand the body of a can (it could be good idea to do this in advance before
any other steps).
Step 6.
Now it up to you to paint it or not.
Step 7.
Stick a clear plastic pipe to the 90 deg jets. (I was not able to find pipe
big enough to put it on the jets so used smaller one and put it into jets
and seal it using sealant).
Step 8.
Mount air breather on outlet pipe
Step 9.
Bend a clamp around the can and attach the tank inside the bonnet.
Step 10.
Disconnect your crank case breather pipe from air induct pipe (seal the hole
there) and connect to the inlet of the oil catch tank.
Also I can’t
hold from adding a few stickers… to finish the product :)
That’s it.
